Fake Tooth?

I have 2 fake teeth because for some reason there were never any permanent ones for them. Once I get my braces off I will get a retainer with the 2 fake teeth on it. Will I get it the day I get my braces off, or have to wait and walk around for a couple days with 2 holes in my mouth? I also wanted to know if I whiten my teeth after my braces, should I do that before I get the retainer so they can match it, or after I get the retainer and have them whiten the retainer? Sorry for the length of the question. Thanks!

The impressions for the flipper cannot be taken until after your braces have been removed, so yes, you will be walking around with 2 holes in your mouth... BUT the turnaround time for a flipper is usually either same-day (if your appointment is in the am) or next-day, so you'll only need to 'hide' for a little while. Please note that these times are in my office, and may not reflect the time in other offices....





As far as the whitening, the teeth on the flipper will stay the same color, even if you try to whiten them.. do you really need your teeth whitened that badly? If so, then your wait-time for the flipper will increase... you may want to reconsider.

Reply:You will need to discuss the shade with your dentist. If you plan to whiten your permanent teeth you will need to do so and then the dentist could have the lab or whoever he/she uses make the teeth on the flipper (retainer) a lighter shade that what your permanent teeth are at the present time. Just discuss it with your dentist. They will work it out! Good luck.
Reply:First, you would whiten your teeth first, and then have the "fake" teeth made because "fake" teeth can NOT be whitened. Make sure you let your dentist know that your plan is to whiten your teeth so he can plan the procedure this way.


Second, if you are going to be whitening then you will probably have to go around with no retainer for a couple weeks, first to do the whitening then the time to have the lab make the retainer.
