Will a home teeth-whitener effect my fake tooth?

So I used to smoke and drink coffee alot, now that I quit I want to whiten my teeth. I do not have $300 to do it professionally. I want to use a home kit (you know, like those crest whitestrips) but part of my front tooth is fake because of a trampoline accident many years ago. I don%26#039;t know if the strips will whiten that tooth as well... I dont want to do it if they will be mismatched. Do you guys know if it will or not? Or if there is a particular brand to use?

If the tooth is porcelain, it will not be effected. I have 6 porcelain veneers due to a car accident and they are the same color as the day I got them (11 years ago). I have used white strips to help whiten the teeth around them, but be careful if you do this so that the fake tooth doesn%26#039;t stand out as a different color. Good luck.
Reply:Bad idea!!! It will take the enamel off your teeth which will leave you w/high dentist bill when you get older.
Reply:If you have had the fake tooth for a long time and it has become stained by coffee/etc. The whitener might help w/ the surface stains that have accumulated over the years but it won%26#039;t change it any whiter than the original color. Just keep an eye on the teeth next to it to make sure they are not getting a lot whiter than the fake tooth. Be sure not to use too much whitener. If it squishes on your gums use a q tip or something to wipe it off immediately. You might want to walk around w/ a wash cloth in your mouth so you don%26#039;t slobber everywhere.
Reply:great choice..(crest whitestrips) they work great i use them too..unfortunatly it will not change or bleach the tooth colored filling you have..you could make an appointment with the dentist once you start to notice you teeth getting to the desired color..and you like the shade of whiteness...your dentist will change the filling...very minor visit...probably wont take as long as the first filling...patients do it all the time...good luck:)
Reply:The filling material will not whiten. Only the natural part of your tooth will. You will have to replace the filling when you get to the shade that you want. Crowns, bridges, or veneers will not whiten either.
