I had a root canal and crown put on only 3.5 YRS ago.

The crown also fell off three months after he originally put it on.

He says he should pay $200 out of pocket to put in a metal post this time. Is this right? Shouldn't he have put in metal post the first time through?

What should be done when the crown breaks off with the post and build up all inside the crown?

Your question does not make complete sense the way it is written.

1. Depending on the condition of the tooth when the origial root canal was done, No he did not have to put in a steel post at that time. He can just shave down the natural tooth to act as the post. Very normal process.

2. If it fell of in the first three months, I'm guessing the cap just came off but the post was ok at that time. The dentist shoul have been able to just re-cement it back in place.

3. If after 3.5 years something happened and the natural post broke off in the tooth. I would have to ask do you brush your teeth at least twice a day? If not then it could be as simple as decay got under the cap and caused the natural post to weaken. Even if you do brush something like this can happen. So while 3.5 years is short it would not be unheard of either.

4. Now the dentist will need to insert a steel post and build up around that and then cement a new crown onto the new steel post.

Reply:Well, in America, Doctors are allowed to charge whatever they want for their services. It's a competitive business just like anyone else. Unfortunately, I think you might be stuck having to pay.

Some dentists will replace a broken crown if it's broken within a certain amount of time after being put on. 3.5 years sounds like it might be a bit too long. I believe that a person is expected to have crowns replaced every 5 years or so, (at their own expense) to avoid them breaking and you being stuck with half a tooth. It sounds like what's happened to your tooth would be difficult to fix, so it does not surprise me that your dentist wants you to pay. I doubt he ever gauranteed a lifetime warranty...crowns break often.

I'm no expert, but I've avoided having crowns put on my teeth for years since I know so many people who have to deal with broken crowns being broken for weeks before their doctor could get to them, plus all the expenses involved. Good luck...I'd go with what your dentist is offering. At least with a metal bar the post won't break again. Remember, it's your responsibility to ask questions before having any kind of medical work done. If you're unsure about something, anything, ask. You're dentist has to answer as honestly as he can.

For a temporary fix, you can use a crown glue that you can buy at Walgreens.

It costs about $1000 total....after xrays %26amp; everything else. Save up!!! It is SO worth it. There's nothing worse than having to hide your emotions (smiling) or your personality (laughing). You can't expect to live your life to the fullest if you always have that insecurity. I hope you take my advice!

if you need a temporary fix until you get to your dentist you can go to any drug store and get some temporary cement that will last for a day or two. its by the dental stuff, its easy to use. it should cost you less than fifty dollars to have it re-cemented, if you go to the dentist that put it in it may cost nothing, just call and ask.

It sounds like you possibly had a temporary crown or a temporary filling. The good news is since you've already had the root canal, it shouldn't hurt! You need to call your dentist in the morning as soon as they open. They may need to quickly re-cement your "toothish" thing!

Reply:He put a temp. crown on while the permanent crown is being made. You need to call your dentist and they will have you come in and re-glue the temp. back on. Do it right away or you could get a massive infection in your jaw.

It only takes a few minutes to fix.

The cheapest temporary solution would probably be a "flipper". Our office charges $190 for those. It is like a orthodontic retainer with the tooth attached to it. It is only for looks; if you eat with it you might break it. Beyond that, there are many options depending on the scenario. The best thing for her to do would be to go see a dentist and ask what the options are.

It is a fake tooth????? That would be an implant. Do you mean that it has a crown on it?? If so, that is not a fake tooth, it is just a fake outer covering. I don't have a clue what you mean by it is 180. Do you mean it will cost $180.00 to pull it? If so, jump on that, cause in my office we charge $278.00.

If you have infection in it, and the source of the infection is not removed, then the infection will continue to grow and yes it can affect your health, even put you in the hospital or in serious cases cause death.

Get the tooth out.

Reply:You can't tell what it is..only your dentist can. it may just be a cavity on the side of the tooth and it can be filled...the very worst thing it could be is an infected tooth that may need to come out. That's not going to happen, but if it did...they have easy ways of replacing that tooth with a porcelain one that will look just like the rest of your teeth. Call the dentist...and try not to worry. One thing you don't want to do is

have an infection in your mouth and do nothing about it. That CAN be really serious. The infection can get into your blood stream and cause MAJOR problems... just go see your dentist and you'll be fine! ♥ We worry about teeth things cause they are scary..dentists are not scary ...they make the hurts go away...♥
Reply:I actually think this is the wearing away of the enamel. I think it is yellow because it doesn't have the protection over it and coffee/tea and other things stain teeth especially without the enamel over it. This is happening to my friend right now and she doesn't have any dental insurance so she hasn't been able to get them fixed. I personally don't think they are cavities, and they will probably be able to fill them in. Just go as soon as you can. Don't lose your smile.....she has lost hers because she is too embarassed to smile. It is sad, but she is saving to have something done. Good luck.
Reply:Sounds like you may be brushing your teeth too rough. I have the same problem. I have receding gum lines and worn down teeth because of it too. My dentist was able to put some filler into the holes but that's only temporary...it will eventually wear out again. The fix is to actually pay attention when you're brushing and don't push down on your brush so hard. My dentist recommended I get an electric toothbrush...i.e. Sonicare because you just need to rest the brush on your teeth and you let the vibrating brush do all the work.

Fake and false?
They are essentially the same, but they may have different connotations depending on the context. Often "false" in this and similar sentences means that the item was intentionally put there as a replacement whereas "fake" tends to mean that the item is meant to fool ... So false teeth are replacements for teeth that have been lost but fake teeth are worn as part of a costume.

I'm (hopefully) gonna get my braces off at the end of the summer and i'm afraid i'll have yellow marks on them. or does the orthodontist do something to make you teeth white? I have to get a fake tooth too!

depends on how you are taking care of them .....if you been taken care of them while you had them on you may not have any yellow spots....my sis got hers off and she has no yellow spots she had hers for about 4 years

I'm 15 and I had option "B"(ugly buck teeth that hurt), but I decided to go with option"A" after a lot of them got loose and I lost some front ones. Which would you choose? Why? Oh, yeah, no dental coverage and not a lot of money, so we didn't have many choices that were anything close to affordable. Hope to get some fake teeth in the spring maybe.

When I was in high school, I didn't have perfect teeth either, and my family didn't have insurance or anything, and my Mom was the only one that worked because my Dad was disabled. There was 6 in our family. Us kids all got jobs at early ages. Just tell anybody that asks or makes fun of you (hopefully noone will, that is cruel) that you are having dental work done, and hopefully before long your problems will be fixed. AND REMIND THEM THAT THEY AREN'T PERFECT EITHER. Some peoples imperfections are on the inside and other people's are on the outside.

I'd have all my teeth pulled too if i was in pain. a toothache is the worst. By having them pulled you give yourself the option of dentures down the road. That will be a huge improvement. As for not having dental insurance, my ex's sister had the same thing done and went to south carolina for false. They were really cheap there. Being so young, if your parents aren't making really good money you may be able to get medicaid. In michigan, it covers dental up til the persons 21

You should bring him to a dentist because you need to make sure that there is not nerve damage. The dentist will tell you what a viable option is. I have heard that if you know tooth out, you can put it in milk and they might be able to reset but I am not sure if that is just for second teeth. Hope your baby is feeling OK.
Reply:I don't think that dentists will replace baby teeth. Because in a few years, they'd just have to remove it again so that a new, permanent tooth could grow in. If you really want a replacement, you can always asks the dentists in your area.

Reply:The only - and I emphasize - the ONLY person to whom it is appropriate to address this question IS the dentist. There are pros and cons to each approach; let him/her explain them to you and go with his/her recommendation.
Reply:Its not common that a dentist will re-place a baby tooth, but it all depends what the conditions are, many times when a child falls, they also man need stitches if the tooth rips the top or botttum of the gum.
Reply:Poor thing! It is very unlikely that any dentist will put a false tooth in a wee one as single-tooth prostheses are so small if he falls again he might swallow\inhale it. Also, baby teeth are too small and have too big a 'nerve' to have a bridge attached.

So I think you'll have to get used to his gap!! Usually from adult teeth come in ata bout 6 years old...

Reply:As an orthodontist...I would not consider putting in an implant as he'll be getting more teeth anyway. In addition, in order to put in an implant I would have to take an impression of his bite. If your child doesn't have all his baby teeth it would be virtually impossible to accurately implant a tooth in it's place and not create problems with alignment for bite a future tooth placements.
Reply:Why would you want to replace a baby tooth? It is not necessary. The adult tooth will grow in fast enough. It is not that big of a deal.

His mother(who is too lazy sometimes to take of him) waited around 1 1/2 years to take him to get it checked out and they rotted so bad to the point that they would never grow in. I would be more worried that the adult tooth would descend properly than whether or not there is an empty space......

How can I make a wolf tail and wolf teeth?

I'm dressing up as the big bad wolf (I'm a chick) and need some help with some of the details. Pre-made tails in my area are black, but I'm going to be brown (I know, I have to be difficult). Will panty-hose stuffed with something work best, or is there some craftier way to go about it? Also, the only fake teeth/fangs I've found are clear and super crappy. What other way(s) can I give myself fangs without just painting them on? Thanks for any help!

How can I make a wolf tail and wolf teeth?
Wolves' tails are fluffy so I don't think that stuffed pantyhose would give the right look. I'd just buy a very small amount (1/8 yd if they'll sell you that little) of fake fur yardage at a fabric store --get the most convincing color/pattern. At home you can sew or glue it into a tube, and make the end more pointy by sewing or gluing... then pin it to your rear from under your clothes, or attach it to some elastic around your hips, etc.

Teeth are harder. If you can't find any vampire teeth (candy or plastic version like for Halloween, or in a costume store), I'd think some painted ones would be best (at least the two fangs)... they can be painted pretty convincingly (look in Halloween costume or face painting books at library or bookstore for tips).

You could make some awesome teeth from polymer clay but don't know how you'd hold them on your face anywhere... you wouldn't want something actually in your mouth very long. You could wear a mask though and put the teeth in that (with polymer clay, we make a bake the teeth separately, then shove them into an unbaked "gum" of clay (then bake together).

Has anyone ever had this done? He said he was just going to make each tooth a little wider to fill the gap. What exactly do they do to teeth to make them wider? My aunt had to have her front teeth fixed, and they filed each one down to a little post, then put a fake tooth on top of it. Is that what they would do for me too?

bonding...it will look somewhat like it's part of your tooth but its almost like playdoh...they can shape it however they want so that it looks real...

Certainly, it is not something you should consider doing often. In general, the color of teeth change throughout your life, due to the foods consumed, water and general environmental conditions.

I also had a tooth caped in the front and had the same issue. Eventually, after 20 years, I had it replaced and before I had it replaced, I got my teeth whitened at the dentist.

There is no age limit for the Lumineers, but not all dentists do them. In the office I work for we charge $1500 per tooth and we will not do less than 4 teeth so they are very expensive. Well worth the money though! And no pain is involved with the Lumineers. You don't even need a shot to get them done! Hope this helps!

Making just a model of teeth is easily done, making teeth to fit someone, is tough. Alot of work is done into doing this task. Alot of work and alot of supplies.... mouth impression trays, impression materials, stone (yellow)/plaster(white)/jade (green)%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; any of those will work to pour the molds up, red wax, acrylic materials, and finally a processing oven made specifically for dentures. Not to mention, you have to measure a person mouth, so the denture can fit appropiately..horizontally and vertically.

I know how it is done, Im 7 days away from graduating the dental assisting program but I wanna hear from people who have had this done, specifically on the front teeth, or other dental professionals who have done this on patients. i had to have two root canals, one on 8 and one on 9 because of a former dentist who cracked them and left them open to infection. tomorrow I have an appointment to have them prepped and have temps placed. what does it feel like? how to temps for front teeth look? in our school we only have the cheapest of the cheap so temps we make look like, yellow mud basically. are they going to look okay? the dentist i see is excellent but Im not familiar with him temp work. I have externship interviews in less then two weeks, maybe or may not be before i get my permanents, and I dont wanna walk into these interviews with crappy fake teeth...

If it's a reputable dentist, the temps should look almost as good as the final restorations. Most "cosmetic" dentist make their own temps instead of having the assistant do the work.

They will look and feel fine, just treat them carefully until the permanent crowns are placed.

Depends on what kind of filling you need. Shouldn't take long though and you might feel a lil quick pain but nothing too harsh. See a dentist.

Just wondering what happens if someone doesn't brush their teeth and they fall out, can they only get fake teeth like old people get? Or are there any other options?

Not brushing teeth?
You really can't be seriously considering not brushing your teeth till they fall out! Usually they won't fall out; in fact, it is rare for bad teeth to simply fall out. Usually they will end up badly decayed and infected, which means painful, and need to be extracted.

When teeth are extracted, the bone level around the teeth recedes or goes down because there is no longer a supporting structure. The younger you are when you lose your teeth, the more bone loss you will experience. Dentures are an option, up to a point. A newer procedure done these days are having mini-implants placed in the bone and having overdentures in place over these. There is tremendous support for the dentures this way, even though nothing replaces having your own teeth.
Reply:False teeth are an option if the teeth get really bad (lots of rotting and cavities). But, I think with isolated teeth getting bad they just replace them with fake teeth on something like a wire retainer that is hardly noticeable. Ask your dentist! Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I do notice white teeth. Teeth are the first thing I notice on someone. I have done whitening myself. You can only get so white. People like Paula have Veneers. They are expensive, but give that fake look. They look great. I have some myself. I opted not to go "bright" white. I like a natural white better than a movie star white. I think they look fake. I get a lot of compliments on my teeth and my smile.

The dream I had was very interesting you could say -

I find my self in a room with 3 people, I believe all three are my cousins, 2 men and 1 female. One man was at first in the bathroom in the tub taking a bath with the female while I think I was just watching outside the tub, and then all sudden the man was ask for sex from this female and she was rejecting it, and then the two stepped out and was in the bed room, the man raped her, while I was in the bathroom looking in the mirror and happen to notice my two upper front teeth was lose and starting to come out with much blood dropping onto the bathroom stink. Can you get braces on prosthetic teeth?i think this one's for a dentist or a med student?

Ok the problem is I have a pretty bad overjet and I decided recently to get braces. I started the overall treatment first, teeth caries, etc. and they did a root canal on one of my frontal teeth which has been damaged a while ago. The problem is that it didn't work and next week they'll have to do a root resection on it. Now, i read online and it said that if that doesn't work, the next option is extraction. My question is, if that would be the case, and they have to extract the tooth, will they be able to put the braces on a fake tooth? will it move along with the others or how would it work?

If you get the tooth extracted then your options for filling the space would be a denture, an implant, or a bridge. If you also want braces though, then that's a very tricky situation because the "normal" bridge won't work because you won't be able to ensure the two side teeth (that the bridge gets attached to in order to create the tooth in the middle) move together with it. Also, you might not even want to get the other teeth to move with it because it's probably in the wrong position now anyways.... so that cancels out a bridge. An implant before braces is automatically canceled out because once it's in it's not going anywhere. A denture would almost work but as your teeth shift the denture would need to be CONSTANTLY redone, which would cost a lot and not be beneficial in the end for all the time spent on it and with it getting fixed and stuff.

In that case, I'm thinking it's probably possible to add a "semi-real-looking-tooth" to the chain of brackets if the resection doesn't work. The ortho could cement a bracket onto a fake tooth, and then just add it into the line of brackets, with the wire attached, etc, and somewhat attach it to the other teeth next to it (pretty much a somewhat-flexible type of bridge!)

Either way it'll work out... hopefully the resection will work, and if not then they won't leave you toothless for two years, there's definitely non-permanent options for now until everything gets fixed.

PS: I'm happy you decided to take care of your teeth now because once everything gets all straightened out you'll have lotsss and lots of years of nice teeth and a healthy mouth especially since you haven't caused any permanent bone loss or anything, so you should be proud of yourself for finally getting things fixed up!!
Reply:An implant can not be moved orthodontically. Only teeth can do that. So if they extract, they will place a temporary tooth there during the orthodontic treatment and then place the implant.
Reply:You need to get an orthodontist that will coordinate work with your dentist. You may find that you need to take out some teeth anyway for your orthodontic treatment, and your dentist would have to do that part. If it turns out you would have had to take out the tooth that is damaged anyway, that would be ideal for your current situation. Ask your dentist for a referral to an orthodontist. Get the photos and xrays done, and go over all your options for treatment with everyone involved.

I am doing braces and implant (also resulting from an unsuccessful root canal). My dentist, and orthodontist are in complete coordination. They are also across the street from each other. I schedule appointments back to back, which is convenient for me.

With an implant, you have to wait a while (months) after the post is in before they can put on the tooth anyway. You can start the braces in the meantime, and when they finally put a tooth in they will put in one that will fit your new bite.

call your dentist and ask about a device called " snap on smile" ,not all dentists may know about it, and i am not sure of the cost but i am pretty sure it is not that expensive, but it would be the perfect solution to your problem until you can get the cosmetic work done that you need. I think a lab named Glidewell does them.

They're noticeable because most people don't have white, white teeth naturally, without some help. And a lot of actors have veneers, or porcelain placed on top of theirs.

My 2 front teeth SLIGHTLY over lap each other. You can't really notice it. They have been like that since I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I dont want braces.. mainly because I cant afford them without insurance, and Im 27 years old and would look stupid with them. But If i had insurance, i would definitely get braces no matter how stupid i looked.

IS there a way to have them fixed without braces or without getting fake teeth or veneers?

I heard of invisiline, but thats probably even more expensive, and I heard its not for everyone.

are you me???? my two front teeth were the same - sounds like it anyway. i left them until i needed crowns on them and then - did the crowns. you might be able to find an old school dentist would could make you a retainer with wires in it - they shift and push the teeth into position. i had one when i was a kid and didnt use it like i was supposed too so....

He would have to have specific dental insurance. I am sure if he had dental, he would be using it.

Also alot of dental you get though your work place, has dollar limits on how much you can use per year. for example my dental insurance only pays 1000 toward dental work each year.

my teeth started to break and chip off while i was pregnant with my 4th child. i was told it could be from lack of calcium at the time i was pregnant cause i was got opregnant 4 times so close together. but i do admit i am a good brusher but i usually scrub the hell out of my teeth too, and my gums. i dont floss its not my thing. but i brush my teeth about 5 times a day. i havent been to a dentist for a while. i know i need to but money is my problem though. and my teeth have been through a lot and now i really do wish i went to the dentist but i never had the money to go. my mom always tells me if it doesnt hurt leave it alone when i first started having chipped teeth. my front teeth are fine they are not broken or chipped at all. but anyways should i get dentures or fake teeth. i am planning on going to a dentist and get a clear picture on what to fix to my satisfaction and good for my health. i really do not want to get all my teeth pulled for complete dentures. advice please!

Reply:You need to go see the dentist money or not and get your teeth checked. You also need to see to it that all 4 of your kids see the dentist every 6 months. This remark is not meant to be cruel but you should be able to provide for all of the kids you have. I know accidents aka accidental pregnancies happen but do get each and every one of you in to see the dentist ASAP and then when you leave schedule your next 6 month appointment for ALL of you before you leave the dentist office. You do need to floss so get yourself a reach handle flosser and start using it. Depending on the age of the kids get them one too if they can handle it.

People who say you need to go money or not, need to understand that a lot of people these days don't have dental insurance. A lot of companies don't provide it now. My dentist wanted to take out my silver fillings and replace them with the white ones and I just laughed at him. Yes I realize taking care of your teeth is important, but when you don't have the money, what are you suppose to do. Maybe if dental offices would have some kind of payment plan, people would go more often, but where I live, they want all the money right then and there, and that's just impossible for me. I am 13 and live in Australia. I got a plate on the 17th of April. Not a plate for fake teeth, just to push forward my top right eye tooth. I go back to my dentist every 2 weeks and get it tightened. My top two front teeth have a gap that can fit a bobby pin in, and the tooth between my front right one and my right eye tooth at the top row. My tooth thats getting fixed is nearly forward. Im going back in about 1-2 weeks now. When im finished with the plate, will all my teeth move over and close the gaps?? I feel that my eye tooth will fit in the gap thats there now, but will my gaps close?? Thanks alot.

The answer to your question is yes, that is the idea.

The whole game plan is to consolidate spaces where needed and fill them with teeth where they are crowded together. You may have to wear a "retainer" after your treatment is completed so that the teeth don't go back to their old positons.

These days "braces" are more common than "plates". I hope it is not some general dentist you went to - plates sometimes refer to removable appliances not used any more. Reply:Christy is right. The answer is NO! Teeth bleaching (even Zoom) will not whiten the porcelain crowns. The same goes for composites, bridges, and veneers. However, according to recent studies, you can whiten the teeth under the veneers. Teeth bleaching will not whiten the porcelain veneers themselves, but depending on the translucency of the veneers, the whiter teeth will probably show through to some extent. If your "fake" teeth are porcelain crowns / PFM / bridges, the teeth bleaching will have no effect to its color.

If the crown is whiter, you may whiten other teeth till you have returned to the original shade of your teeth when you first had the crown placed.

Getting new teeth?

Got a few questions and if any of you could help answer some that would be great. Since I was young I've had very weak teeth. They look bad and basically are slowly falling apart.

How much would it cost to get new teeth?

What different methods are there?

As in methods I mean like ones I can take out at night or just ones that are implanted?

Additional information- I'm 24 years old, I particiate in MMA and hope to be fighting about a year from now, could the fake teeth be a problem if anyone here knows?

Getting new teeth?
I would love to have new teeth too. I know that dental implants are about one to two thousand dollars per tooth. Porcelain veneers that fit over your existing teeth are about 800-1500 dollars per tooth. Porcelain crowns are about 500 per tooth.

Dentures (the ones you take out at night) are probably quite a bit less, but you won't be able to chew as well and you will begin to lose bone in your jaws.
Reply:Well before you're ready you're probably going to end up with dentures - either partial or full plate. They're far less expensive than implanted teeth which are basically screwed into your jaw (more painful early on, but more permamant and natural). A good set of dentures would cost less than $1,000, but the implanted teeth could cost about $200-$300 PER TOOTH. Good luck.

I have a crown or whatever, basically a fake tooth thanks to a car accident ,which sucks, is there ANY way that I can get my teeth whitened, professionally or not professionally? Or will the crown not change at all? Thanks

No matter what technique you use to lighten the color of your teeth I'm sorry to tell you that the crown will not change color at all. The only way to change it's shade is to redo it.
Reply:Unfortunately whitening will not change your crown at all. Sorry to say. My sister has a crown for one of her front teeth and it is bright white compared to the rest of her teeth. If you wanted to spend the extra money, they could match a new crown to the white that you whiten your teeth to, but Im sure that would be VERY expensive.

Not brushing teeth enough?

I'm very disgusted with my husbands teeth he just will not brush them!!! I mean he can go month on end w/out brushing which i find totally disgusting! i dont know how to make him do it on his own? On top of that his older tooth rotted out so they had to put a rod in his gum and then a fake tooth cap over it. well now the cap has fell off and just the black rod is exposed it's so expensive to fix! we only have medicaid any suggestions?

Your husband needs some self-discipline when it comes to brushing teeth. It only takes two times a day, preferably after breakfast and after dinner. Just tell your husband that if he doesn't brush his teeth, they will eventualy fall out (obviously), and that not brushing them will cause kidney problems and other stomach problems. Just keep encouraging him to brush them and tell him the long-term affects of not brushing them. Afterall, it should not take no more than 10 minutes out of your day (5 minutes in morning 5 at night). Well goodluck with your husband and i hope i helped.

I tell him if you want the tongue go brush and use Listerine. I think I saw an ad on t.v. were you can get just dental coverage for a low price that covers the whole family. But this is major so If your lucky most companies cover 50% with a referral from the dentist.

Remember tat if you continue to assume that while you are not fine with him he might think tat you actually can cope with it.Just a minute since when did he start doing it. Reply:with the spacers in, you can just brush your teeth with your regular toothbrush - don't worry, they won't come out.
Reply:Brush 2 times a day (like usual) and only floss the teeth that do not have the spacers or they will pop out. The spacers are there to ease the bands on to the teeth when your braces are applied. Yes, they are annoying, but you'll be happy with the end result!

You should always use a soft toothbrush. The others are to abrasive and may cause damage to the enamel later on.

I think you are asking what you can eat w/ the spacers. You can eat normally. Just try to avoid chewy food that can dislodge the spacers.

Once the braces are on you should be given home care instructions which should include avoiding hard or chewy foods, proper brushing techniques, and maintance. Good luck!

Well, I have tried ALL kinds of OTC tooth whitening systems: the trays, all kinds of whitening gums and toothpastes, and crest white strips (both the original AND the newer kind-BTW:DON'T use these, they can cause SEVERE discomfort to your teeth. Plus they don't work very well anyway!). Now, my teeth are not badly discolored, but they are dull and I have wanted to whiten them for some time. I recently found a toothpaste that FINALLY, actually worked. You can find it in most grocery stores and supermarkets. It's called Arm and Hammer Advance White Brilliant Sparkle. I just happened to try it while going through all the toothpastes one night to see if there was something I haven't tried yet. On the box, it says you can get up to 3 shades whiter in just one tube. It is a regular toothpaste, so you use it whenever you brush. I don't know how many shades I have moved up, but I can tell you I get comments about how white my teeth are now!!

As far as your fake tooth, most OTC products aren't strong enough to affect or change the color of it. One thing you do need to be aware of, though, is that when your dentist put in your tooth, he did it so that it would blend in with the current color of your teeth at that time. That being said, once your teeth become whiter, he may either have to bleach the fake or replace it with a lighter color (or whatever it is a dentist may do.) But, I suggest to try this toothpaste first!! It's very inexpensive. Good Luck!!

P.S. You may notice that once your teeth are whiter, the color of your fake will closely match the rest of your teeth and you won't need to get the fake one adjusted!!

P.P.S. You didn't mention where in your mouth the fake tooth is. Is it one of your front teeth, or is it farther back in your mouth?

Reply:He's right. You could whiten all the teeth around it, but that would look weird probably. You'll have to take the fake tooth out, whiten all your real teeth, and then have the dentist make you a new fake tooth that matches the whiter color of your teeth. that's my guess...

Hi! I'm 14 and a few years back I had to have my 2 front baby teeth taken out and extra teeth inside my gum taken ot. I had an operation for this and I had stitches on my gum. The orthodontist said I would have to wait a little while for my adult teeth to come down.

I waited a year and there wasn't a sine of any teeth coming down. I had another operation on my gum and thet found another extra tooth. They also put a chain which dangled from my gum to pull the adult teeth down. That was another operation.

All together I had 3 operations and my teeth still don't look right I have got braces to fix that though. People at my school pick on me because of it and it isn't fair. They say I have fake teeth and all that even though I have tried explaining to them. I want to know if any of you guys have had the same experiance as me???

okay during the summer my sister freakin splashed water on me and i slipped on the wood floor and BROKE two of my teeth. i was crying. a LOT. not because of the pain but because i didn't wanna get fake teeth. and then i had to get two root canals. and i can get the tooth crowns whenever i want but a part of me doesn't want to. i kinda want to keep them how they are, just so they can be like a small flaw i have or something, you know? i really really don't wanna get crowns.

Reply:since you've had the root canals, the painful part is done, getting the crowns will not hurt, if that is the issue..... also, since you've had root canals, the tooth, is basically dead, and over time, will break and wear down .... My mom only has a few of her top row and bottom row front teeth, my Auntie always has toothaces, my other aunt has fake teeth, I have perfect teeth, I do brush them when I get to. And sometimes, I floss. But I get some occasional toothaches. When I was 8-10, I used to always go to the dentist and I've lost all my baby teeth. When I was young I ate alot of candy, but I don't no more. I don't have any more baby teeth. I'm worried of loosing a tooth and looking weird or loosing all my teeth, help please?

The best thing you can do Rainbow is stay away from sugars in a liquid form. Soft drinks like Mountain Dew are the worst especially if you drink them at night at go to bed without brushing and flossing. The plaque is formed from the acids and bacteria in your mouth and can settle on the tooth causing decay. At your age, a fluoride over the counter rinse like Act is helpful to strenthen your enamel(outer layer of tooth) Eating a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables is essential and drinking plenty of water is helpful to wash away those sugars in candy, soda pop, gum etc.It is normal to worry about your teeth. I have some patients that dream about losing teeth. However, if you are careful in brushing and flossing and watch what you eat, there is no need to worry. Good luck and smile often.

THE KEY TO KEEPING YOUR TEETH IS CARING FOR THEM.

BRUSHING TWICE DAILY AND FLOSSING SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK WILL MAINTAIN YOUR ADULT TEETH IN GOOD SHAPE, AS WELL AS VISITING YOUR DENTIST REGULARLY.

i dont know if these even exist but are there these fake teeth that cover over your normal teeth for photos so it looks like you have good teeth, if you can get these where from?

if you're thinking of some quick remedy to cover your teeth, i dont think there are any. anything that would fit over your teeth would probably make your teeth look bigger, sort of like wearing a mouthguard. There are crowns and veneers but those are processes that takes days to a weeks time.

Teeth/gum problem help?

my mom recently pulled her 2 remaining teeth out. she wears the fake teeth. (sorry-forgot what its called)... so while she is waiting for the new sets of teeth( which comes in a month time) she is using the old one. but she is complaining that her gum hurts everytime she tries to eat hard stuff. why is that? this has been going on for some tine now...has it got to do with the food that she is eating? went to the dentist, but he said nothing is wrong.

if her gums hurt while she has the old set of dentures in, it is probably because her gums are still healing from the extractions and/or her old dentures don't fit properly. unfortunately, there's not whole lot she can do other then rinsing with warm salt water for the next week or so and eating softer foods.

This is easily corrected by relining the denture.

Your mouth changes over time and this is normal.

I would tell her to find a new dentist and get a denture reline. Either that, or call her permanant dentist and set up an appt. for a reline. Demand it!

The dentist should use " PIP" PIP stands for pressure indicator paste. This will show the dentist exactly where the denture needs to be altered.

The denture could also just be relined with a special pink material. " COE "

Ghost Teeth?

I took my 3 year old for a check up at the dentist and the x-rays showed that he had no adult teeth above his infant teeth. He's missing 1 front tooth and the two leading to the back from there. Anyone else hear about this and has this happened to anyone you know? He will have to get a bridge or surgery to place fake teeth into his gums eventually.

My dentist said that he's met a 23 year old girl who just had her milk teeth all through her life. I guess these cases happen more often than people think.

In the end, the girl had to get most of her teeth also pulled out and replaced with porcelains.

Reply:if they are completely rotten then the best solution is implantation (the screw and the teeth as u said it), this is the best because they feel like ur original teeth and they are fixed in the bones but this is expensive.

if u still have good teeth then u can put what we call a porcelain crown or porcelain fixed bridge which is like original teeth but made of porcelain.

ur dentist will explain it all to u but this is a brief idea.
Reply:"Fake Teeth" are implants and depending on the condition of your gums will cost from $2 to $6,000.00 per tooth. (If your jaw bone has eroded, eg if your teeth have been missing for a long time, they will have to do some gum surgeries and bone grafts to build them up). Sometimes the implants don't take. If you have enough of the tooth left to support a buld-up or post and core, you can just crown the teeth...this will cost, with the build up, about $1500 to $2000 per tooth. If you have a few good teeth to support abutments, you can have bridges or partial dentures done. These cost around $3000 for a bridge, maybe $1500 for a partial. Or just get them all pulled and have dentures made (about $1500 to $2000 per arch-upper and lower). If you have a major university nearby with a dental school, you may be able to get into a program where the dental students work on your teeth and sometimes they will have a sliding scale fee.

When I was almost 3 I had to have all my teeth pulled out cuz they were so rotten. I don't remember that, but I do remeber I had no teeth til I was in 3rd grade. When my adult teeth came in they were already rotten. I don't have any enamel on my teeth and they were never very white. They're more a sort of a brownish yellow, with dark brown places and holes in them. Pieces break off a lot and I had to have a lot of my back teeth pulled out already. What I have left is falling apart. I want to just have them all pulled out, but the dentist I went to said he wouldn't do it cuz I'm only 12 and they can be saved but it will cost a lot. I'd rather go toothless like before than be stuck with ugly teeth that are always breaking, or sit thru alot of work. Besides my mom said it will cost almost as much as our house and we can't afford it. My mom had all her teeth pulled out and she got fake teeth when she was in high school. I'd rather do that too, or just stay toothless like I was before.

I would imagine that having your teeth pulled out is about the only option along with replacing them with false teeth. The thing is that at your age your mouth is still growing which is probably one of the reasons your dentist is reluctant to do anything now. When the time comes you don't have to make the most expensive choices . You can get false teeth at a reasonable price and they last a long time.I can only imagine how you must be feeling with such a dilemma. i am far older than you are and still have most of my teeth. my top teeth look very nice and straight, but because a dummy dentist pulled a bicuspid when i was a little girl and never put a bridge there (bottom), my bottom teeth came in crooked. they are gradually pulling apart. sometimes one will become abcessed and so painful i need to go to the emergency room--that pain can make you literally scream every time you move your mouth! i am certain that (since i never had an abcess up on the top teeth) this too is a result of never getting a bridge! if the teeth pull apart unnaturally, then germs can get into the gums a lot easier, so i think.

my goal is to keep my teeth. i know others that had all their teeth pulled because of some of the same problems that i have. but i do not need to have them pulled and will not: my friends that did get into pain from their dentures. when they take them out, their mouths pucker inward. some of my friends would rather wear chadors than let anyone see that they do not have natural teeth! they have pain chewing.

i hope you can, perhaps, get to a university-based dental clinic to get the work done. i really and truly suggest that you keep your natural teeth. a dentist would not say he refuses to pull them if he did not think that fixing them will be better for you in the future. you might also wish to speak to a therapist/psychologist about how you feel about yourself with this problem. it must be hard on you.

I'm 21 and when I was about 15 I chipped my tooth. I got a part of a fake tooth to fill in the rest.

Now my teeth are a little yellow and I've used this whitening product and it's gradually working except for the broken tooth.... what should I do?

I have the same issue. I chipped my front tooth when I was 14 (25 now). My dentist told me back then NOT to use whitening products because they don't work on the fake piece of the tooth. I am glad I learned ahead of time.

You can try baking sode mixed with hydrogen peroxide. That works well as an alternative and it doesn't affect the chipped tooth.

When I was 12 I had 4 big molars pulled out and big metal fillings put in most of my teeth cuz I had cavities. My front teeth are all overlapping and crammed together. Then another 1 of my back teeth cracked in half and I had to have it pulled out. Now that I'm 15, the fillings have all turned black, some have come out and I have holes in those teeth, and my front teeth seem to be getting pretty wobbly. I can move a couple with just my tongue they're so loose. I mean they move like quite a bit real easy. The last time I went to the dentist was like about 3 years ago(when I had the last 1 pulled out) and he said I grind my teeth a lot and that's messing up my teeth. Can that make them loose too? Some of mine are so wobbly now I think they actually will fall out unless I just take them out first. We don't have dental insurance and not much money, so if it's gonna cost a lot to do whatever it probly won't be happenin. If they do fall out I can probly get some kind of fake teeth right?

It sounds like to me you aren't taking care of your teeth at all. When a filling come out its because more decay is in the tooth and now the filling has nothing healthy to grab onto. This isn't the fault of the dentist because if you take care of your teeth properly a filling should last 15 to 20 years if not longer.

It also sounds like to me you could possible have periodontal disease. Which is an infection in your gums, which is also really sad because you are so young. Periodontal disease is when buildup or plaque stays on your teeth and then gets under the gums. It hardens into something called calculus that eats away at the bone holding your tooth into place. Once the bone is gone you can't get it back and then the tooth will become loose until it falls out.

You really need to go to the dentist. Unfortunately it sounds like you are going to be losing some more teeth and then find away to replace them. Please start flossing every night and then brushing.

If there is not much money than your mother will qualify for MEDICAID that you apply for at your local countys state assistance program (DHS here) Since you are aminor they should pay for repairs. Sounds like you will have enough points (points of problems on a rating scale the state uses)that you will qualify for braces and other what they call cosmetic dental services.
Reply:Nighttime grinding of teeth will wear them down, sometimes very badly, but it does not make the teeth loose. It sounds like you have gum disease and this is caused by poor care of your teeth. Not brushing frequently enough or well enough, or both. It is also important to floss. Depending on the degree of the gum disease, some of the teeth that are now feeling loose may solidify themselves a bit if you get your teeth cleaned by the hygenist, all the cavities filled and you start taking much better care of your teeth. Your dentist or hygenist should show you how to massage your gums with your tooth brush...the gums are actually the most important, and we forget them. If you value saving any of your teeth at all, get to the dentist immediately. Also, keep in mind that if you are starting to use dentures now at such a young age, you can end up having more bone loss in your jaws over the years and that will make it more difficult for you to 'fit' dentures when you get older. Do everything you can to save what teeth you can right now!

No you cannot repair them without fake teeth. And fake teeth look totally real. They will not be metal unless you would like them to be. But to replace fake teeth its gonna hurt cause they shoot you up with novacaine.

My teeth are breaking?

ever since i had my 4th kid my teeth are breaking. not the front my back teeth. my front teeth are great. i dont know what is causing it. my hemoglobin is 14.6 and that was taken 3 days after i had a 2 in a half week long menstrual cycle. i weigh 127 and in am 5'3. my youngest son he had problems with his teeth something about calcium. i took my prenatal when i was only 5 weeks pregnant. my mom told me to take 2 intsead of one but i was scared that i would me and the baby. so i didnt listen to her. she says my teeth are breaking because i had so many kids. i brush my teeth at leat 3 times a day. and for my broken teeth should i get them pulled or get a crown. what is the difference between a fake tooth and a crown. and what are my other options. i seriously doubt they can put a filling on them because half of the tooth is gone.

Your most likely grinding your teeth at night. You are probably stressed and night grinding is what happens. Get a night guard. I'm on my third one and I still have all my original teeth.

I would get the broken teeth crowned. You need your back teeth for chewing. Unless you want to eat mush the rest of your life.

So a few years ago I was at a friends house and she was on the tredmill. And she told me to do something on there. And being the idiot I was I got on there and did what she did and when I did I slipped and cracked my front tooth in half. And went to the dentist and they got it fixed. I was really happy. But lately now I have been really self concious about it. It sticks out farther than the rest because its fake. And half of it is discolored. Its awful! They can't make it too thin or it will break so thats why they had to make it thicker than the rest of my teeth. And when I smile and you look from the side it looks terrible! And I've noticed that there is a black spot on the side of the fake tooth. Could it be a cavity? I dunno. How much do you think it will cost to get a new front tooth done?

Hi Hun. I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. The material used to repair the tooth can often discolor after a few years and it will stain if you drink lots of tea or soda. Some foods will so this as well. Since the bonding is NOT perfect, like your natural tooth, some bacteria can get in between the seal and start to decay your tooth. So you must see a dentist is the spot is decay.

Second, instead of going back and forth every 2-3 years for a new bonding, we charge 200.00 for an incisal edge bonding, get a crown done for 800-1000.00. The dentist can match the color and size perfectly and you will never be self conscious again. It is worth the extra to get it done right, and feel good about yourself. Talk to the dentist about a payment plan and try to put at least 300.00 down to cover the majority lab costs and impression materials. I hope this helped you. i'm 14 years old but i have been diagnosed with dentinogenesis imperfecta. this means that the enamel on my teeth is extremely weak and my teeth decay extremely quickly, reguardless of how much i take care of them. even worse, i also have acid relfux disease, where my stomach does not produce enough stomach acid and i uncontrollably regurgitate food. this causes acidic food to come into my mouth and decay my teeth further. I have seen on TV shows that there is a type of teeth replacement where metal "screws" are screwed into your jaw bone and fake teeth are attached permanently. i have already had two (2) root canals and i have one crown. is it worth it. I know that inevitably, i will have fake teeth by the time i am 25. any information will help... and I dont need a pity party, i get enough of that from my mom!

The fake teeth that are implanted won't stay put for a long time and they will work loose. And, since you have acid refux, these teeth might cause you more problems than their really worth.

The best advise I can give you is to get regular plates. They look just as good as regular teeth, plus their no where as expensive as the implanted teeth. The last I heard, implanted teeth like you want usually run anywhere from $500 to a $1000, each tooth. A good set of plates can run anywhere from around $800 to maybe $2000 depending on the quality of the material.

Another advantage to plates is that you can take them out every night and clean them. Since you are 14, every few years or so, since your growing, you'll need to get them relined which is really no big deal.

I've been wearing plates for years now and to be perfectly honest, I don't miss my real ones at all. Actually, I can eat just about anything I want, cold or hot, except nuts which I do love. I've had false teeth since I was around my mid 30s and I am 58 now. I have also never worn my lower plate, but my top plate is rock solid since I modified them myself with a file and sandpaper. Believe me, I love my Steak:))
Reply:Yes, there are many types of replacements for your teeth. The one you are talking about involves them removing your teeth. They will then let the bone and gum tissues heal and implant posts. These posts have holes in them which allow the fake teeth or dentures a place to sit as they are inserted into the holes. This replace the need to use denture creams and having a suction plate which can be quite gagging. This alternative is also extremely expensive which I wouldn't recommend unless your parents both have dental plans at their work. I just had all my teeth removed in December and I am still healing, but I have the plated dentures which i have not been able to use yet because of my strong gag reflex. I have to go back to the dentist and have him cut out a section of the upper suction plate which is causing me to gag. FYI I am only 35 years old...not much difference between 25. Hope this helps.

They're permanent and will feel just like your natural, God-given teeth. It can be quite pricey but much more comfortable than dentures! so thanks to my moms great genetics, i am missing an adult tooth. it is the tooth next to the front right one, i believe the eye tooth? anyways, my baby one fell out about a year ago in soccer, and i immediatly had a fake replacement put on. so tonight it just fell out while i was brushing my teeth. all that is there is a wire attaching to the two adjacent teeth that used to have the fake tooth on it. i am going to try to get into the dentist in the morning, but what are they going to do?

1. i need an implant soon because i am 18

2. i need my wisdom teeth out in about a month

3. i may need braces/invisalign before my implant due to some spacing

3. i refuse to have a "flipper" retainer with a tooth on it

You can get the implant if you have adequate space and bone. They may need to do the ortho/braces first to make the space big enough for an implant. The braces will not get in the way of having your wisdom teeth extracted. They could put a "fake" tooth on the braces. After the braces come off and you get the implant, you will probably have to have a flipper. Just remember, they are just temporary until it's time to uncover and put a crown on the implant. Crowns and veneers should be custom made, not chosen from a catalog or off a shelf. Characterization is very easily accomplished and will make the teeth look very realistic. With today's materials you should be able to have crowns and veneers which are very natural and indistinguishable from your own teeth. I would consider a different dentist if you are not offered these options. Good Luck.
Reply:I agree with the other answer that a lot of customization is possible. Some of that customization will depend on how much of the natural tooth structure is removed. The more tooth structure that is removed, the more translucent the veneers can be (imho, the more opaque the veneers are, the more "fake" they look). However, keep in mind that the more tooth structure that is removed, the weaker the teeth will be and the chances of sensitivity will increase. I prefer to keep the preparations for the veneers within the enamel (thinner) for longevity of the restorations and health of the teeth. If the patient is willing to sacrifice on longevity and health, the preparations can be more aggressive and the restorations will often look more natural. For crowns, the situation is similar -- oftentimes the stronger the crown, the less esthetic it is. You may want to ask the dentist if they can make the veneers similar to your natural teeth. In a way, that can be easier and more conservative than trying to make everything perfectly straight. (I assume you have already looked into the options of bleaching and/or braces?) Best wishes.

Reply:The whitening products will have no affect on the bonding material. It will not damage it, nor will it lighten it. When bonded fillings are placed they are color matched to your tooth to look natural. The result is, after bleaching, you will see a distinct color difference between the natural tooth and color filling.

If you want to whiten your teeth, go ahead. Once you have your teeth whitened to the level you desire you can go to the dentist and have the bonded filling replaced to match your new tooth color.

When I was about 12 years old my brother and I were wrestling and he accidentally busted my head over a metal chair. The result was a busted lip and a broken off front tooth.

I went to the dentist the next day, and now 3/4 of my front tooth is fake.

I'm all natural ya right!! Only my dr. knows for sure.... But i will tell u my haircolor is fantastic and was not given to me by god my nails are real but I do like a manicure every now and again. I wear makeup everyday and I have been know to apply a bit of sunless tanner on occasion. Am sure in a few years I will add botox to the list. At least Im honest looking this good does not come cheap lol

I went to see my dentist and he recommended me to do a root canal on one of my premolar. I heard some people if the root canal is not done successfully, you may lose your tooth permanently. This will be my first root canal and I am worry. I am thinking for the worse scenario that I may have to lose my tooth. I worn braces 20 years ago when I was a teenager. I am thinking in case of losing the tooth, can I go for orthodontics treatment again instead of getting a fake tooth. Also, I am thinking should I have a specialist do the root canal or just do it with my regular dentist. If any one know how to get a review or rating of the dentist? Thanks!

Root canal treatments these days have a very good chance of success, about 95% so dont worry too much about it. if just in case u lost the tooth, u can have a bridge or implant. Orthodontic somethimes is used to close the gap between teeth but u need to consult with an specialist or at least ur dentist about the possibilities.

Reply:You can get it bonded. I have bonding on both of my front teeth. You can go about 8 years without it getting discolored, and if they just cover the whole tooth (like they did with mine), you shouldn't have to worry about it breaking as long as you don't eat super sticky carmel or face plant on the cement or something.

See I had a tooth that is still a babby tooth and the tooth that was suppose to grow in there my adult tooth it grew at the roof of my mouth so now i have a babby tooth on the left side of my mouth and a tooth at the roof of my mouth and it is very emabarrasing i want to know how much it would cost to get them both removed and a fake tooth to replace my babby tooth. how much would it cost to do that

How much does it cost to get a fake tooth?
Well, as I work for a dentist we see this every day. There's a number of things you can do to correct it, but if it were just getting the teeth extracted and getting a crown put on...you have to pay for the extractions which here run from $130-$220...the crowns here are $837 - plus whatever x-rays they have to take costing around $20 a peice. Prices vary from state to state...I live in Louisiana so we're pretty average, but in places like California and New York they are more expensive. If you have insurance they may cover usually about 80% of the extractions, 50% of the crown and usually close to 100% on xrays...other than that you're looking at well over $1000 for the complete procedure. A lot of offices have financing through companies that offer plans such as those with 12 months with no interest. This may be beneifical for you in this case. Call your dentist and ask what is best for you to do. They'll probably get you to come in for an exam and x-ray and give you an estimate on what the treatment will cost.

I too was in the same situation. People would always compliment me on my smile and tell me my teeth were very white and bright. But when I looked in the mirror I did not see what they saw. My dentist told me not to get my teeth bleached b/c they were already white enough. SO I brought the Crest Professional Whitening strips from the dentist. It cost only $50. It looked great after a month. And I finally saw what others did. It did not look fake or overexposed. I try to do this once a year but not that often.

Reply:I think that it looks good. I would rather see white teeth even if it does look a little too good to be true than honest, true-to-life yellow,stained or brown teeth. However, a couple of caveats: Be careful not to do it too often. If yours are already white enough that you get compliments, then wait until the compliments stop coming before you do it, b/c over time, it can weaken the teeth. My darling, handsome 19 year-old-son just called me from college to tell me he broke a front tooth biting his THUMBnail! I am sure he must have been whitening his teeth to death during HS with those white strips, but not telling me. He has learned the hard way. Now he'll have to have an expensive set of veneers, so I am being taught a lesson as well. I think I'll make him pay me back.

Also, whitened or veneered teeth look really odd in black light, so when you go to the night clubs or to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, don't smile real big, or you'll look scary. LOL.

I imagine that it takes much longer for the synthetic material that dentures are made of to rot, and those are usually cleaned every night.

Snitsky’s teeth are not that yellow, he brushes some type of substance on them that causes them to appear that yellow. Apparently it washes off with a regular brushing.
